Front and Centre Dance Academy

Front & Centre Dance Academy is conveniently located at the south west corner of Bathurst & Eglinton Avenue. You can find us in the Nortown Plaza where there is plenty of parking available.

Our beautiful studio is equipped with reception and waiting room, beautiful spacious change rooms and lockers. Students dance on a state of the art Harlequin sprung floor and an additional cushioning under the floor helps to prevent injury by absorbing much of the stress placed on even the most accomplished dancer's body. Mirrors and Alva barres complete the studio, along with a club quality sound system ready to pump some energy into the room.

Parents may watch the lessons through a viewing window and a larger window allows for plenty of daylight throughout the entire space.

UNIFORMS

Front and Centre Dance Academy has a uniform policy that is for all students in Ballet, Jazz, Lyrical, Tap, Musical Theatre and Acro classes.

Not only does a uniform unite a class , but it also helps the teacher and assistant see the dancer’s body and movement more clearly. Baggy t-shirts and sweaters restrict their ability to give feedback.

This year FCDA will be implementing the BLACK ONLY UNIFORM TOPS. ALL other PREVIOUS colour FCDA tops will no longer be part of the uniform. We recommend that you come in prior to your dancer’s first dance class. Uniform Week-September 8th-10th from 3:00-8:00pm.

Tickle Trunk - Pink Ballet bodysuit, pink tights, pink ballet shoes, and pink skirt.

Stars and Starlettes - Same as Tickle Trunk uniform

Ballet Primary-Gr 5 - Black bodysuit, black skirt, pink ballet tights, pink split sole ballet slippers.

Jazz - Black FCDA tank top, black flare pant, or black capris or black shorts. Beige slip on, split sole Capezio or Bloch jazz shoe.

Acro – Black FCDA tank top, black short, black capris, or FCDA unitard. No pants. Bare feet.

Mini Tap - Black “Mary Jane” style tap shoes. Same attire as jazz.

Jr/Sr Tap - Black lace-up tap shoes. Same attire as jazz.

Hip Hop -Clean indoor running shoes.

PLACEMENT INFORMATION

The faculty at FCDA is extremely careful and concerned about choosing the correct level for each student. It is very important to remember that all students have very different talents, skills, and abilities, and they will not all progress at the same rate. In maintaining our high standards for quality dance education, it is sometimes hard to keep the same students together in a class year after year. Many students may need extra help and learn at a slower pace to help those master new steps that may come easily to others. The most important thing is that the student “enjoys” the class and “feels comfortable” in it and is “happy”. Please note that if the level of your child’s class has not changed it is not because they have not improved. FCDA often keeps students at the same level for up to 3 years. Front and Centre Dance Academy has established itself as an institution of excellence in training. FCDA Artistic Director Jodie Dusseault is a graduate from Ryerson University Dance Program. Our other faculty members also hold degrees or diplomas in dance or teaching skills, certified to teach in their field, pursuing degrees, or have danced professionally. Please give the Director and Teachers the opportunity to observe your child so that he or she may be placed in the proper working level. If the Teacher and Director feel a level change is necessary, we will make that recommendation to you and your child. Please keep in mind that we take our jobs as educators very seriously and can personally guarantee that we take great time and consideration in placing our students in the most appropriate level for their development. The number of times that a student studies per week will influence how quickly he or she progresses. We have also found that students who have taken ballet for several years are usually able to work at a higher level in jazz than those that have had little or no ballet training at all. This is because ballet encompasses all the fundamentals of dance.

FCDA CODE OF ETHICS

  1. All students are expected to RESPECT their teachers and other dancers at all times. The Dance Academy reserves the right to suspend or expel a dancer for rude or inappropriate behavior towards any staff or other student.
  2. Disruptive talking in class will lead to early dismissal of student.
  3. All students are expected to arrive on time.
  4. Students must wear uniforms every class. Baggy T-Shirts and jeans are not permitted. Jewelry and watches are not to be worn in class.
  5. Hair must be tied back, or in a bun for ALL ballet classes.
  6. No food or gum allowed in studios. Water bottles are permitted.
  7. Front and Centre is not responsible for lost or stolen items. Please leave your valuables at home.
  8. No cell phones allowed in the studios.
  9. Parents should not interrupt classes while in progress. Please make an appointment if you wish to speak with a teacher.
  10. Front & Centre is a Peanut free enviroment. No nuts allowed.
We encourage all of our students to work hard, try hard, and become the best dancer that they can be!

Looking forward to a great year!

Jodie Dusseault, Artistic Director
